"a deep breath in," hands on his hips, his chest puffs up after he says the words. his minccino follows his every movement in the sand beside him; hands on her hips and chest puffing out.

"and exhale." the words are strained through a high pitch, but both release their breath, the blue in their face fading as they take a few relaxing breaths.

memphis begins walking along the shoreline, taking a few of the items in his hands to help him clean. a sand sifter, which he pushed in the sand a few steps, stopped, and let mink empty into the trash bag he had at his side.

despite the fact that he is working in the sun, he had a smile on his face. he likes dressing for the beach, a loose short sleeve button up and a pair of shorts that reach just above his knees. mink loves the sand too, showing as much by how she plays with it while memphis sifts some more sand.

only once he stops does she bound through his footsteps until she reaches the sifter and starts to help him empty it out to start the process all over again.

"when we're finished with our stretch, we'll get into the ocean for a little bit." he promises, loving how mink turns in excited circles and trills at him in response.

[attr="class","samjermain"]Slateport isn’t his beat, but it was, at one point, his home. And that shitty little apartment in the shadow of the city was the first thing he’d ever been able to call his own. It was special to him in its own way-- different than Fortree.

Slateport was also wonderfully unaffected by the weird rifts from hell that currently churned like a parasite in Fortree’s gut. Too much time near the warping and bending of space gave him headaches. The fresh sea air and remarkably normal sounds of gulls, waves, and beach chatter was grounding.

Olí was ducking in and out of the spray while Raya tried to hit her with gentle spouts of water. Memo had a compostable bag hanging behind him, and Scythe ranged over the beach stabbing trash with her… well, with her scythes.

The little Horsea gets distracted by a tiny Igglybuff and her human doing something funky with the sand and Raya, not paying attention, trips over her, whale-tail hitting up a poof of sand over the pink creature when she lands on her back.

“Oh, jeez,” Memo says, trying to sound concerned while biting back laughter. “You okay, Ray-ray?” He looks up to someone close by. “Sorry, we didn’t mean to disturb you.”

Scythe comes up to stand behind him, arm blades covered in crushed pop cans, empty food bags, and plastic in all colors of the rainbow.

the wave of sand that covers somebody's unsuspecting igglybuff and its trainer startled memphis into squeaking out, "yipe!"

memphis watches the igglybuff and its owner give a wail of protest before the child with an inner tube takes the igglybuff and runs off to cry for mom. mink, his minccino on the other hand, chirps at the vaporeon as if to encourage the poor dear not to be dismayed, embarrassing things happen all the time to the best of pokémon.

"we're okay, and i'm sure they'll be okay once they get rinsed off." memphis encouraged, referring to the girl and her small igglybuff. "is your vaporeon okay?"

Memo knelt to brush sand off her head, then stepped back as she righted herself, and ducked her head into the surf to clear off the rest of the grit. “She’ll be okay. She’s a big girl.”

Scythe shook her arms, the collected trash jangling loudly. It was the Kabutops version of an ah-HEM.

“Oh, shit.” Memo swept the trash bag out from where he had it tied around his waist and opened it so Scythe could scrape her treasure trove of refuse into the bag, before turning to lumber away in search of more.

Memo grins at memphis evren. “You cleaning up the beach, too?” He leans in and whispers conspiratorily, “Is it court-ordered community service?”

watching the horsea jump out of the water and squirt its trainer has mink feeling adventurous. she forgets, in her excitement, that she's not a water type. but she gets some water in her cheeks anyway and squirts it toward memphis.[break][break]

she doesn't even make it a foot with her squirt, pouting at her failure.

Olímpia attempts to hit her trainer in the back with another water gun but Guillermo tiredly sidesteps it and the water stream hits Memphis, instead.

“Shit, fuck, sorry, Olí,” he turns to scold her but she’s just slipping beneath the surf again with a watery giggle.

while minx looks at him like he's a lunatic, he smiles at memo and shakes his head.[break][break]

"don't worry about it. having a pokémon with that kind of energy is never a bad thing. after all, lively pokémon make for great adventures, so i've heard."

either way, he looks to the pokémon in question, minx, and then to the one that blasted him.[break][break]
